My name is Adeline Schutz.

As a designer, my mission is to solve problems and answer visual needs with impact. I plan to further integrate creative solutions into systems already in place allowing for collaboration. I believe it is important to recognize research as an integral part in the process as the consumer's needs should remain first.

You'll find me among the rocks.

Call me a penguin because I love rocks. My favorite hobby is to search the shores of Lake Charlevoix to find more stones to add to my growing collection.

Or Among the Trees.

The greatest thing about growing up in Michigan has been the amount of trees. While the city can be a nice change of pace there is something about the whisper of the wind through the branches and leave of trees that makes me feel most at home.

My Story.

I started my post-secondary education studying Advertising and Graphic Design at the Columbus College of Art and Design (CCAD) where I developed a keen understanding of balance within visual layouts. However, I realized, while graphic design was interesting, it did not challenge my brain to its full extent. That is when I discovered Industrial and Product Design at CCAD. The ability to create, design, and problem solve complex elements in a 3D manner excited me.

I am enthralled with the new path in which I took. It has allowed me to further challenge myself and learn concepts I did not previously know existed.

Design Research
Advertising Graphic Design
Industrial Design
Interior & Architecture Design
Illustration

After discovering Industrial Design I had the opportunity to overlap my classes with the Interior & Architecture Design department. Through this I was able to take a furniture class as well as a sustainability class. Adding a minor in this field made sense, though as I was introduced to Design Research my junior year I ultimately decided to add a second minor so I could gain as much knowledge on thees topics before graduating. Recently I have rediscovered my passion for hand-lettering and illustrations. While I have not added a new minor or switched my major yet again, I think it is important to note the creative avenues that I pursue on my own time.

As a designer I am constantly looking for outlets to grow as learning never stops within the ever changing design industry. One thing I've learned is to not box myself in to one discipline, this has allowed my creativity to thrive!
